What to Expect From the Discover Scuba Dive on Catalina Island

Adventure abounds on the island and one of the most popular is the Discover Scuba Dive. Also known as an introductory dive, Discover Scuba Diving on Catalina Island is an ideal way to learn more about scuba while experiencing the wonders underwater.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Catalina Discover Scuba Dive.

There’s no experience necessary: The Discover Scuba Dive is designed to introduce you to the wonders of scuba diving, so you don’t need to be certified or even have dived before. While you should be comfortable in the water and know how to swim, you don’t even need to have had any experience snorkeling to take part in this Catalina activity. The only thing you need to bring is your swimsuit, towel and a sense of adventure.

Plan on three hours: Your Discover Scuba Dive on Catalina Island will take about three hours – but not all of that time will be underwater. You’ll watch a video about safety and skills in our dive shop before your instructor takes over to show you how the dive gear works and what to expect when you get in the water. Your time underwater will be about 30 minutes or so, depending on your air consumption.

It’s a fun adventure for the entire family: The Discover Scuba Dive is available for anyone aged 10 and up, making this an ideal family fun adventure. You and your kids will love it! It’s also an ideal adventure for couples and a great way to determine if your partner loves to scuba as much as you do.

Cameras aren’t allowed: You and your instructor need to be able to concentrate and for that reason, the Professional Association of Diving Instructors has determined that neither you nor the instructor can have a camera. If you’ve got your heart set on documenting your first underwater experience, please give us a call. We may be able to arrange for you to hire an underwater photographer.

You’re going to love it: Catalina’s kelp forests are teeming with fascinating marine life. Our Discover Scuba Dives happen in the Casino Dive Park, a marine preserve where the critters are just as curious about you as you are about them. For many people, an introductory dive on Catalina is what got them hooked on scuba, leading to a scuba certification and years of underwater adventures.
