Dive Gear Rental in Avalon: Everything You Need to Know

If you’re reading this, you must already know that Catalina is a premier place–not just in California, but in the world–for scuba diving. Legendary ocean explorer Jacques Cousteau used to conduct research and film in the waters around the island. Even before scuba diving technology was invented, back in the 1920s and 1930s, skin divers and spear fishers would come to Catalina’s clear waters in search of fish, abalone, and lobster. Then, in the 1960s, the Casino Point Dive Park was designed and opened to be a place for divers to have a safe, shore-accessible area for scuba diving.

To this day, the kelp forests and abundant marine life in the waters around Casino Point–and all over Catalina–remain something worthwhile to explore. Catalina is so accessible for divers, and it’s possible to commute to the island from many Southern California coastal towns. Whether you need tank fills, wetsuits, fins, gloves, lights, or all the gear, Catalina Divers Supply can help. Read on to learn everything you need to know about Dive Gear Rental in Avalon.

Cold water calls for quality wetsuits.

Despite lots of sun and clear weather, the waters around Catalina Island can be quite cool. The average temperatures can range from about 57 degrees to 68 degrees. Fortunately, Catalina Divers Supply can assist you with rentals for things to keep you warm, including wetsuits, drysuits, hoods, booties, and gloves. A wetsuit rental will run you about $22 for a 24-hour rental period, and hoods, gloves, and booties will cost about $9 each for a daily rental. The price for renting a drysuit for the day: $109. Care to bring some dive gear home with you? Items such as dive boots, hoods, gloves and much more are available for purchase at the Catalina Divers Supply Avalon Dive Shop.

Fill your tanks.

Why lug tanks on a ferry to the island when you can rent them on the island? Reserve a 24-hour tank rental. Different options include: Aluminum 80 for $16, Steel 72, 80, or 100 for $22, and Nitrox 63 or 80 for $20. Air fills cost $10, and nitrox fills cost $16. Planning on frequent dive trips to Catalina? Ask about getting an Air Fill Card which is good for 20 standard fills.
